There was a crappy map pack with 5124 or so maps in it, but it had no texts included, so we asked the author to delete it from all places he uploaded it.

Tha crappy map pack can be found at duke4net. It has almost all the texts, but it's more like 2000 maps because of all the doubles it has in it.

I have no way to prove that I have as many maps as I claim. I've been deleting my DM maps as I go through them and my maps are spread out over 7 different directories waiting to be sorted and filed. With that many maps it's entirely possible that I have doubles with different file names. I should have kept my mouth shut since I have no way to back it up.

Lack of texts doesnt make it crappy, plus any good mapper should leave his watermark in a map anyways.

So you're  saying that the pack wasn't crappy when the text files explicitly say "don't distribute this map without this text" ?

Crappy implies the quality was bad, when it was in fact not.
Youre thinking of a different term, something like shady or deceiving, but definitely not crappy.

That is where a lot of my maps came from... Then the mappacks at http://duke3d.vachu.com and all of the MSDN and DNR maps. Not to mention Dukeworld and Bob's site.

And a good majority of those are trash. Tongue

Even if there are doubles, its still a good map pack for a noob or something.

The huge map pack is, as some have mentioned, stuffed with crap. But every now and then you stumble across a "pearl" of a map. It's almost like a small treasure quest. That's why I take a look at this map pack from time to time.

I think that the best sources for Duke maps is here at DNR,MSDN and Proasm.

Now, back on topic.

Played Alien4:Resurrection circa 23 Jun 2004 by Devastator. Not very impressive and not very playable. The aliens only have to hit you once and you die plus there's barely any weapons or ammo, so you spend the whole time running. The map itself wasn't that good. Invisible walls to keep you from going down certain corridors and there was no door or portal to reach the second portion of the map(or I couldn't find it after extensive searching). Had to clip to get there. I hate clipping. The creator tried to set an urgent atmosphere with dramatic music and a constant blaring siren which was fine(although slightly annoying after awhile), but the walls and lighting were bland and didn't create the tone that the author was trying to get. I'd give this map a 2 out of 10, and that's generous.

Played !CBP_6! circa 15 Nov 2004. by Devastator. I get annoyed by maps that force you to use cheat codes to finish. After extensive searching and even using the showmap code, ended up clipping through a key coded door because there was no key(or I couldn't find it). I hate clipping.  The flow seemed alright up until that point and the look was decent. The continuous exploding to set an atmosphere of urgency got old after awhile. The author thinks one can survive an entire map with the mighty foot and one drinking fountain. Since finding ammo and health was like trying to find diamonds by digging through the bags of potted plant soil in your local market. Making matters worse the way to end the map was by killing a big boss. So one ends up running from almost every enemy just to conserve health and ammo for the final battle. I'd give this map a 3 out of 10(would've scored 4 if I didn't have to clip).

I don't know Devastator and I have nothing personal against him. All I can say is play the map and see what you think. Maybe you'll like it.
