Just completed it, didn't take me too long indeed. To be perfectly I didn't like it much, mostly because you seem to keep ignoring the suggestions and pointers everybody gives you everytime you release a map (namely resorting to wallshading, or forgetting about those pitch black textures that are now laid over entire walls). The theme didn't make any sense (first in a forest then through a tree into some odd house / base thing full of weird rooms, then back to a forest ?), the keys in the indoor part were once again pretty pointless because of how the keypads were just a couple of feet away everytime (you might as well just have used switches, it would have made the gameplay a little bit less straightforward too). The gameplay was annoying (bad health / ammo / monster ratio, and throwing waves of pigcops and enforcers to the player like that doesn't work, same could be said about respawning octabrains and commanders in such odd locations, I spent more time running away from the monsters and dodging their shots than fighting them), that first maze with all the trunks really didn't work and felt completely unrealistic. The design was pretty poor, the outdoor locations were very very basic, I saw quite a lot of misaligned textures, and those indoor locations had some potential but the lack of wallshading and purpose behind them ruined it for me. Those floor trims (?) in that one corridor looked pretty ugly and nonsensical as well, and there were no ambiant sounds while this map definitely could have used some in some areas.

I don't mean to be harsh, I'm just sharing my honest opinion with you, hoping that you will learn and improve from my comment. I really think you need to polish your levels more, pick a theme everytime and stick to it (ie. I remember your Compton map and I would have liked it much more if it hadn't been for that sudden switch to a base theme halfway through the map), and start focusing on shading / lighting / wallshading / sounds / atmosphere in general, rather than just (randomly) detailing your indoor areas and hoping it's going to work out.

Just keep ignoring criticism and you'll get better!

Let's take a look at this picture:

Notice the sprite chairs and tables, the black texturing around the light and the sprite air duct in the corner. This is the same recipe you used in The Chronic and it's getting old. It doesn't look bad but you cannot fill every room with this stuff.

I'm sure you guys mean it well but all your suggestions are a waste of time and energy to this person.
It all has been said before and that guy ignores everything completely.
Or he doesn't understand what you mean or he is just too lazy to read and learn to change things in his maps.

I wonder why you still upload maps and ask for reviews and suggestions Sanek.
You ignore all the things people are suggesting to make your maps better anyway.
What's your point?

He's just copying and pasting from his own maps now.

I have to agree with the rest - it's not a step up from The chronic, in fact it's a step down, since 'The Chronic' had much better gameplay. The map just feels very random and rushed, there are some nice ideas (I liked the campfire heh) but the map doesn't reach it's potential thanks to annoying gameplay, recycled ideas and rushed design.

^ Hahaha,

I disagree when you say that a bad map is better than nothing, though. In my opinion releasing a lot of rushed levels is only going to give you a bad name, and wouldn't be a good contribution to the community either since it would basically just flood it with poor quality maps, at the expense of the few good ones - some casual players would be put off by the lower standards of the releases and might just move on to other games.

Spending more time on your levels to polish them and make them at least look presentable is not only better for the players but also for the mapper, as it feels much more rewarding to release something you've worked on for a while and that you're entirely satisfied with and proud of, than just to release 'something'. I see you have potential, that's why I'm a bit bummed to see you release half-baked projects every two weeks. Maybe you should work with Eddy a bit more, to learn from the way he does things, like you did for that first level of the Chronic 'Bad Night' which was pretty awesome.

This map could be great if it will be remade, and i have some ideas about it. If Sanek let me work on it of course.

It'd probably be better if you PM him. He might not check this thread very often. Smiley
