It's about time I upload my good ol' episode Vermin Clearance.
I get messages every now and then from people asking where to grab this episode so I decided to upload it here.
It's a full 11-map episode this one. So don't expect a fast run through.

The beginning of this episode are holding some of my oldest maps. And I'm the first one to admit that they're not top notch levels
But hopefully it's getting better.

DOWLOAD LINK

Here is some random screenies though:

I managed to get into this room by hopping the fence then coming in through the window. Now I can't go back out the window and this door doesn't open. I also don't have the red key, so I'm stuck.

This first level is causing many to get stuck.
I know it's quite confusing and non-linear.

I actually wondering about deleting the episode from the server and re-build the first level a bit.

You must have the red card before entering those tunnels. I'll guess you managed to get into that first room before you are supposed to.

Delete the episode and wait a couple of days...... Cool

Maybe some beta testing could be of use since that was just the first level. I still have nine more maps to get into places I'm not supposed to.

Don't think so..
It's the first map that causes problems.
The rest of the levels should be a little bit more linear.

I'm not going to re-build 11 levels.

This episode has been out on the web for years and the only map that causes serious problems is the first one.

Maybe because people never got past the first one and therefore couldn't complain about the rest?

Sounds like a challenge. I think I'll clip back to the street and try to figure out the "proper" way to finish the first level.

So when I start punching holes in the rest of the levels, do I get a cookie or some month old fruit?

Managed to clip through this gate too. Did me no good blowing up the wall and throwing the switch to get to the yellow key because it wouldn't let me back through, so I got stuck again.

edit: clip is the wrong word here. When I attempted to jump over the wall it was too tall, but I kinda stuck to the door halfway up, and then I was able to jump over.

No you don't have to strafe jump there.
I suspect you've done some cheating...

Here is the build pic. As you can see there is a sectoreffector to the right in the corner who raises another "step" just outside the entrance.  Wink

I didn't cheat. If I did, it was because I might have found an exploit without realizing it. I got into that big room, killed everything, wandered around until I noticed some machine noise next to a wall, seen that it was textured darker than the rest of the wall, jumped up to the room behind the masked wall, triggered the alien button, killed the newbeast, the other switch next to the (I assume) fake door didn't do anything like it was untagged, went back into the big room and seen the pillars, the last pillar was only a couple clicks up from the floor, strafe jumped up to where the underwater passage is off the second to the last pillar.

BTW, check the code. I killed the overlord at the end of the map, it played an episode ending "movie" clip as it would when a boss is killed, then the game exited to the main menu instead of the next level.

I'm playing 32 bit, no mod, no hrp

I actually asked Kim to bring back the "month old fruit" last year... Grin

Not any more... Wink

I've been building some 10-12 hours on this level. Might be ready soon.

Hmmm...strange. Might be something with the installation? You have some other Cons in there or something?
Or is it something about the 32 bit?
This episode is supposed to be played in 8 bit.

Anyway, this will no longer be an issue. I deleted that part of the map yesterday.

But thank you for notifying me.  Thumbs up

I'm still owed some month old fruit, but that was so long ago I hardly remember what it was for, and by now it's probably seeded out and grown a tree.

I'm seriously not trying to find anything wrong on purpose. I just don't know where to go at times and stumble across stuff. Those one-way windows don't make navigating through the map very easy.

Even though it's of no consequence now; Nope. Vanilla duke in a clean directory. All I did was drop the bat and zip into the directory and used the bat to launch the game.

Or is it something about the 32 bit?
This episode is supposed to be played in 8 bit.

I don't think 32, 16, or 8 make any difference on this issue. I think it's more of a code bug.

None of the other levels end in a boss fight?

Only asking just in case.

^Well, thank you again Forge.
It's very usefull for me to have this kind of feedback.

The windows have already been taken care of.

I also made it more linear.
For example: I made it impossible to continue without having picked up the red keycard.
More TV monitors to guide you.
Some hints for finding hidden stuff...etc
