Well those maps have been on DNR before, I think it just means Kim finding the time to put them back up or something.

Also MSDN's  Achilles heel is that you have to use Fileplanet, which is a hassle. (And IT IS FREE!)

I click on a free Fileplanet server and I have the map in a few seconds.  The achilles heel of MSDN is that the organization sucks.  He's got "hot maps" and "old maps" and these categories that aren't helpful (I usually don't know how old a map is or how "hot" it is) and you can't just look up a specific map.  DNR has the organization, and its got a forum, now it needs to have all the good maps.

That's what we're talking about.

I remember when I used to goto Bob's single player maps in geocities, probabey my favorite website but got taken down when Yahoo canceled geocitites. Also I am pretty sure that Mikko's site and Duke4 don't have even 5,000 maps but if they do I plan to get many maps... MANY MAPS MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

This site has over 600. If I had to guess MSDN probably has double that (but alot of them are going to be the same).

Duke4 has a few and that crappy 4000 map pak (which is only really 2or 3 thousand because most of them are doubles).

Poda's site, I would guess, has around 500, but none of them come with text files. If you google Duke Nukem maps you'll probably find alot of those dead sites that are still around, like Bob's which is still there, but hasn't been updated in years.

I think I'm wrong and the site IS down. I wasn't aware of it since it's not a site I go to often, if ever.

It's down alright. Too bad; it had an important role in shaping me both as a mapper & webmaster.

It´s actually still functional, check these out:

http://www.oocities.org/timessquare/chasm/7733/index.html
http://www.oocities.org/timessquare/chasm/7733/archive1.html

No Geocities (as you can see from the links) but it still up in it´s form how we remember it (expect some screenshots are missing, especially on the page in the first link).

Bob´s single player map site was and is important site for me too, because this was the first site I ever saw containing custom maps for Duke Nukem 3D. I had only PSX version back then, so I wasn´t aware that it is actually possible to create your own maps on your very own computer.

You can´t believe how I got my balls to the walls after seeing those lovely screenshots on Bob´s site!  Grin

he-he..nice, Henri.  Smiley

You can't download from the first linked site.
The downloads works from the second one though.

But I don't feel like adding this antiquarian site to the main list. Mostly because the well worthy maps is available here or MSDN.

But it gives me a nostalgic feel to browse through!

That´s also one of those reasons why I like this site. It reminds me about my early days of playing Duke Nukem 3D. However, I´d still like to see some of those unreviewed maps (or games, as the site calls them) reviewed here (Orion Prime etc).

By the way, MSDN link doesn´t work. I should´ve pointed this out earlier, but better late than never! Possible to fix it, Puritan? Mikko might appreciate it.

I've also found the broken link to MSDN ages ago.
Unfortunately I can't access the layout of this site.

The web authoring system is for Kim only. Embarrassed

But thanks for your concern, though. Wink
